balagan

A mess, a chaotic situation, the kind of scene where nobody's in charge and everyone's talking over everyone else. It's one of the most used words in Israeli slang, applied to a messy apartment, a botched government rollout, or traffic near Tel Aviv on a Thursday afternoon. Scale doesn't matter to the word, a balagan is a balagan whether it's your kid's room or a coalition government.
